BARREL ROLLS

This video lesson is demonstrating how to perform left and right hand barrel rolls in Rise of Flight.

Maneuvers in this video lesson were performed with a Sopwith Dolphin. Use of the Barrel Roll as a defensice maneuver to force an overshoot OR as a maneuver to prevent an overshoot which keeps you on the offensive.

Barrel Roll Procedure

1. Pull up for desired pitch angle
2. Right Hand – Move stick to 4 o’clock position, or
3. Left hand – Move stick to 7 o’clock position
4. Complete the roll then level out
Note: Use rudder to tighten the barrel roll

Use of the Barrel Roll

As a defensice maneuver to force an overshoot
OR
As a maneuver to prevent an overshoot which keeps you on the offensive

We are going to perform left and right hand barrel rolls in the Sopwith Dolphin.
These barrel rolls are essentially a cork screw in the sky along a horizontal line.

Left Hand Barrel Roll
1. Pitch Angle up
2. 7 o’clock position
3. complete the roll

So we start pitching up, move the stick to the 7:00 position, then we start applying a little bit of left rudder while holding that stick in 7:00 position to tighten the barrel roll. We roll out, then we level out. (External views)

Onto a Right Hand Barrel Roll:

1. Pitch Angle up
2. 4 o’clock position
3. complete the roll

So we start pitching up, move the stick to the 4:00 position, then we start applying a little bit of right rudder while holding that stick in 4:00 position to tighten the barrel roll. We roll out, then we level out. (External views)

That’s how you perform left and right hand Barrel Rolls.
